Spoof Or Not Is The Question!

The bad thing about Chandramukhi 2 is that it is genuinely bad and is almost amateurish right through. The good thing though is that it is so bad that it is good and is thoroughly enjoyable if seen as a spoof!(more)

Chandramukhi 2 is a 'not bad, nothing more' sequel

The film somehow manages to be not bad! Credit for this has to go to the smart manner in which P Vasu expands the backstory of Vettaiyan and Chandramukhi. These episodes, which form the major portions of the second half, build on the legend established in the first film. We see events that we have either heard about or witnessed as imaginary scenes in Chandramukhi play out as minor variations of what we know from the first film. Keeravani's music, too, mirrors this approach, capturing the spirit of Vidyasagar's work in the original. And while Kangana Ranaut and Raghava Lawrence may not match up to Rajinikanth, but being stars in their own right, they manage to hold our attention with their screen presence. In the end, it turns out to be the kind of film that will mirror the mood the viewer is in. Those who just want a momentary diversion might find it passable while those looking for something more will feel underwhelmed.(more)

Kangana, Lawrence's film is a sequel that we never wanted

'Chandramukhi 2' is mediocrity at its best. We get to hear a romantic number that goes 'Podhum Podhum' (Podhum means enough in English) in the second half. We feel you! Podhum!(more)

Kangana Ranaut, Raghava Lawrence's mind-numbing sequel taints the legacy of the original

The ghost of Chandramukhi resurfaces when a character unknowingly touches a jewel Ganga wore in the first part. From then on, we are caught in a bad version of Sundar Cs Aranmanai. We get the usual run-of-the-mill jump scares, failed attempts of ghosts, the generic flashback you get the drift. At least with Aranmanai, we are prepared for the silly onslaught as it carries the tag horror comedy. With Chandramukhi 2, even that goes out of the window as it pretends to be a serious film. Vadivelus work doesnt yield results either. He is more desperate than funny. Theres a stretch of Lawrence and Vadivelu trying to pull something that Rajini and the latter did in the original. While it worked in 2005, it looks pathetic now.(more)
