This Homegrown Superhero Has Its Moments!
Veeran is a self-aware movie that knows what it has set out to do. Had those sparks of humour caught on like a fire, Veeran should have been a lot more enjoyable outing. As of now, it remains a worthwhile outing for an undemanding audience.(more)

Veeran tries its best to be Tamil cinema's Minnal Murali
Adhi delivers a convincing performance as the superhero, creating a relatable character while Athira Raj portrays his love interest competently. However, Vinay's role as the main antagonist could have been more powerful. The background score, by Hiphop Tamizha, enhances several scenes. Overall, Veeran possesses enough strength to keep us engaged throughout the film.(more)

Tamil superhero comedy with good intentions and unique rural backdrop
As a superhero film, Veeran achieves something that�s rarely been explored before. You don�t have to make a larger-than-life film, especially in this genre, to make audiences root for the hero. Here, Adhi�s superhero powers are never made to glorify his character. Another interesting aspect of the film has to be its rural backdrop - the whole village setup - which Saravan uses very effectively to keep the narration largely engaging. Comedy is Sarvan�s strength and he really makes a mark in that area jn Veeran.(more)

Mediocre writing ruins the intriguing myth in Hiphop Tamizha Adhi's superhero outing
What almost saves the film are the fascinating ideas and nifty scenes � like the bracelet Kumaran wears being a conductor of electricity and how a ruptured electric line recharges Veeran � but these scenes are far and few between. Despite setting up a fascinating plot, the film fails with its execution leaving us with nibbles of fun sequences to be happy with. Veeran might work for kids who are bored of DC and Marvel superheroes and are interested in a homegrown hero worthy of his own comic series. But for fans of the genre, it�s a middling bolt from the blue.(more)
