A simplistic high-concept comedy that could have been more inventive

With a premise ripe with promise for a fun adventure, Kishore Rajkumar doesn't have to try too hard to make a decent entertainer out of Naai Sekar. And in Sathish, he gets the right actor for this role. We know the actor as a comedian, so some of the antics that he has to do after being bitten by the dog (like biting a character below his hip) doesn't feel like image-damaging stuff. At the same time, he is also acceptable as a regular guy with a romantic interest. The actor, in his part, gets the mannerisms right, be it hanging his tongue out or showing puppy eyes.(more)

A watchable entertainer, Kids will enjoy it.

The premise of the film is certainly interesting and a lot could have been built upon that. What writer-director Kishore Rajkumar does is, he lists down the traits that a dog has, and then writes one humorous scene for each trait. For instance, dogs love bones. So there's a scene involving Sathish jumping into a huge dustbin outside his IT office to eat a few chicken bones. Doing this isn't wrong, but this comes at the expense of coherence between scenes. The film feels like a bunch of interesting scenes put together but less satisfying as a complete product. (more)

Naai Sekar is an average film that is saved to an extent by a few comedies.

Debut director Kishore Rajkumar adapts a fantasy idea and plays it to the gallery. Since the idea in itself has a good x-factor, certain scenes appeal well and helps with the laughs. As far as the writing is concerned, it follows a familiar path without taking any risks. The film is totally mainstream and might appeal well to the family audiences and kids. The kids have high chances of enjoying the sequences featuring the dog. On the downside, the film does take its own time to get into the story and the initial 25-30 minutes is a worry. (more)

A loony feel good entertainer to enjoy with your kids and family for this Pongal

This is a fantasy comedy film. So, please don't expect much logic in it" to be on the safer side. The highlight of the movie is it serves also as a worthy spoof film that takes references and manages to mock the other films. The screenplay starts slowly, picks up speed and ends with a laugh at the end. The best thing about the movie is it doesn't try to overdo anything and there are no forced/unwanted scenes. The director has written characters that are eccentric in nature and it has enrichened the humour factor very well.(more)

More appealing to kids than elders

Kishore should have worked on the screenplay a little more, and rewritten a few scenes from it. On the whole, this film is more appealing and enjoyable for kids than adults. (more)
