Hey Sinamika works better as a comedy than as a drama

Given that the set-up is familiar, we know that Malarvizhi will fall for Yaazhan's charms, but the scenes that follow this development come across as too heavy-handed, especially because the film revels in the silliness of the initial scenes. We feel like we have stepped into a different film featuring the same characters. (more)

Silly and outdated

The basic drawback of the film is there is no bonding between the couple. The film starts on a weird note and why Dulquer behaves in such a way with his wife is not established properly leaving the audience clueless.(more)

Even Dulquer Salmaan's delightful charm can't save this hopeless romance

Despite the mess, its refreshing to see a character like Yaazhan. Dulquers delightful charm makes him highly endearing, despite his flaws. Amid all the toxic masculinity, its heartwarming to see a man so comfortable with his wife's financial independence. There's a scene where Yaazhan wears Mouna's clothes because his clothes get caught in transit. In any other film, this would have been a distasteful joke. Yaazhan truly doesn't see it as an insult or a problem. He also calls out the hypocrisy in our gender roles. It is a scene that stands out. It is a pity that the rest of the film doesnt match up.(more)

Hey Sinamika is a sweet romantic drama with good performances and music.

Hey Sinamika doesn't waste any time and gets into the story right in the first frame itself. And the story by Madhan Karky is focused, crisp and emotionally deep. It explores the emotional arc a woman in a toxic relationship goes through, and how it affects the people around her, including her husband as well. (more)

A romantic tale that is close to reality

All the three actors have outdone their performances and they looked really great together. It is Aditi Rao Hydari who stole the show with her performance. She showed all the emotions amazingly well. Jealousy, frustration, love, pain...she showed them well. Dulquer has definitely given a good show but the last half of the film is his win. Kajal too plays a key role and she has done her performance as good as the other leading lady of the flick. (more)
