Middling For The Most Part But Sort Of Works!

A pretty watchable war drama that keeps it quite simple. The emotional connect ought to have been higher but it still works predominantly due to its leading man.(more)

A brave effort let down by uninspiring storytelling

Yes, the film is jingoistic in parts, but when you are talking about a rebellion that eventually inspired another movement of epic proportions (the Indian Rebellion of 1857), this kind of chest-thumping patriotism doesn't come as a surprise. While the storytelling has its flaws, what needs to be lauded is that the makers pulled out this tale from the pages of history and mounted it on such a massive canvas for us to see.(more)

Excellent Chiranjeevi lays bare patriotism and secularism

The major flaw of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is that it's too formulaic. You can almost guess what's going to happen and with a runtime of 2 hours and 47 minutes, the film is a tad bit long. The cameo by Anushka Shetty seems forced. It is as though she has been thrown into the movie only to sing praises of Narasimha Reddy.(more)

Chiranjeevi stuns in Surender Reddy's rousing period drama

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy tells a fascinating story about a rebellion that's never been explored in Telugu cinema. Despite the familiarity of the genre, the film relies quite a lot on Chiranjeevi's screen presence. And he packs a punch and how.(more)

Lives up to all the hype

Sye Raa is a superbly made patriotic drama that hits the right note with its emotions, performances, and narration. Chiranjeevi leads from the front and gives a stellar performance. Though the film starts a bit slow, it picks up supremely well and gives the audience an emotional rush throughout. Box office wise, the film will do extremely well and Ram Charan has surely made his dads dream come true by making Sye Raa a must watch this festive season. Go for it.(more)

Chiranjeevi delivers epic tale of an unsung hero

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy has some jagged edges and in the hands of, say, a Rajamouli, it would've been a far better film. Surender Reddy may not have done a great job in handling the subject but he succeeds in making it accessible to the masses, and in the process, delivers a film that scores high on emotions and drama.(more)

A Period Drama With No Intention Of Putting A Period To The Drama

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is no Baahubali but the good thing is it's not Saaho either. Watchable just for Chiranjeevi's explosive performance & its brilliant scale.(more)

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy movie review: A typical Chiranjeevi film with a bit of Zack Snyder-esque flavor

Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy review: The major flaw in Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is Surender's attempt to force a sprawling story into a mould that fits the narrow definition of mainstream commercial cinema. (more)

Freedom struggle epic works best when in battle mode

However, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy slumps each time the narrative moves away from the battlefield. The characters, except for a few, do not change or evolve from the moment we first see them. Narasimhas saintliness suggests an otherworldliness even before he walks towards the noose. (more)
