A1 Accused No-1

Critics Review

A1 is a simple, fun film if you can forget the seriousness or stay away from testing the logic! Santhanam and co have provided a fairly engaging experience!

Santhanam's A1 is a very watchable commercial, comedy-driven entertainer that would engage the masses. Even though the logic goes for a toss, this film has some good and funny moments alongside decent performances and quirky, well written dialogues. If only for some better staging of the serious track, this could have well been an enjoyable film.(more)

Santhanam & Co's comedy one-liners throughout make 'A1' an engaging watch.

On the whole, if you want to watch a film for a good laugh and pass your time stress-free, A1 can be given a try. Keep your thinking hats and logical loops away to enjoy this comedy entertainer with your friends.(more)

A1 manages to engage viewers because of some fun moments.

The plot as such offers nothing new, but A1 provides ample entertainment, thanks to the chemistry between Santhanam, MS Bhaskar, Thangadurai, Manohar and Saikumar. The combination scenes between Santhanam and Tara aren't that engaging, though. The biggest plus of the film is the less number of songs and it's duration. The thin plot, developed with sufficient one-liners and performed by all the artistes with effective improvisation, leaves the audience in splits in several instances. At some point, we do wonder how hilarious sequences could take place at a funeral, but the way a closure has been given to it is convincing.(more)

A jolly timepass entertainer

The film is purely aimed to entertain the masses so yes, there are many logic issues but that's quite acceptable for a popcorn entertainer. Santhanam is undeniably the biggest strength of the film, his one liners and comic screen presence work big time once again. The choice of comic sidekicks he has chosen in the film also look refreshing. Accused No.1 is a jolly timepass entertainer. Book your tickets with friends and laugh out loud.(more)

Santhanam destroys every woke mind with a barrage of regressive tropes

The problem lies not in writing characters belonging to two different worlds or two different communities. It is about the treatment given to their characters, and director Johnson does grave injustice with his stereotypical depiction of the two worlds. Google tells me that the abbreviation for A1 is 'Accused No 1'. Surely, this film needs to be accused of sending us into depression.(more)

A Pointless, But Wildly Funny Comedy That's Impossible To Take Seriouslyv

The thing is, it's a film that's impossible to take seriously with a wild laugh every five minutes or so. Like the scene where a drunk relative violently stabs his enemy witha banana. Or that hilarious cameo by Mottai Rajendran where he plays a gangster who specialises in blackmailing people with CCTV footage. Santhanam too is back to what he does best with his own unique brand of insult comedy, though he's far more inoffensive.(more)

A No-Holds Barred Santhanam Film That Doesn't Quite Care About What It Says

All through A1, you alternate between cringing at the apathetic portrayal of caste and class, and a few times, guilty-laughing at some relatively clean humour. But perhaps the biggest joke of all, and one that will most likely be mined for laughs in Santhanam's next film is Hindu Tamizhar Katchi's petition against A1. Hurting sentiments of Brahmins? Lol, really.(more)

Humour bails this film out

The film functions on this premise humour being used to create suspension of disbelief. And thus, it is incredibly hard to take Saro or A1 seriously. It is one of those films where you forget everything, the good moments and the bad ones, the minute you step out of the theatre. And, thank god for that!(more)

Santhanam delivers a stress-buster

A1 doesn't try to deliver anything serious through its comedy. The makers of this film want you to escape the worries of daily life and have a nice big chuckle instead. Theyve largely succeeded in doing so.(more)

No magic, no logic

1 has plenty of Lollu Sabha jokes and Santhanam delivers them in his stylebut those are the same old things we saw in Inimey Ippadithaan, Sakka Podu Podu Raja and Dhilluku Dhuddu 2. What's different? Santhanam looks more refined-with toned biceps and legs. Of course, he has incredible comic timing. I don't deny that-but half the time, it's not put to good use. The result? A cringeworthy comedy of errors. I can tolerate Santhanam as long as he doesn't speak filth, but that's what he does. Maybe, vaaya thorakkama nadichcha, I will be okay.(more)

Santhanam's film is an engaging slapstick comedy not concerned with drama or plot

There is not much of a story or drama in Accused No 1; the director has used Santhanam's talent to its optimum. His ability to lampoon conventional notions of macho-heroism, rampant in Tamil films, is what makes it work. The film has also roped in an army of comedy actors - MS Bhaskar, Thangadurai, Manohar, Sai Kumar and Motta Rajendran. Tara Alisha, who plays the female lead, has hardly anything to do. The film has some Brahmin bashing and a pinch of preachy dialogues. The film is more about hilarious comedy scenes' with a lot of improvisation, in order to elicit maximum laughs.(more)

A1 - Energetic Santa is back

Debutante director Johnson K comes out a winner in his mission to make the audience laugh not worrying too much about other aesthetics. Circle Box Entertainment can look forward to laughing all the way to the bank making a crisp entertainer in a controlled budget. Go for it without any expectations and enjoy an energetic Santhanam and gang's time pass entertainer.(more)
