Raja Arrives Without His Crown

Vandha Rajavathaan Varuven fails to engage due to the same problems faced by "Osthe", another remake of a mega-hit movie a few years ago. Instead of fitting the hero and characters in a successful script, the script is again used as a mere platform to promote STR and messaging vehicle to people off-screen. Raja arrives without his crown and mind.(more)

Too much dependency on STR's persona and low engagement makes Vantha Rajavaathan Varuven, less entertaining.

The film has nothing new to offer and this fails to engage overall. The climax has a long emotional dialogue by Simbu, that has good intent. Yet, it falls flat because of the weaker previous scenes that didn't let you emotionally invest in it. Even though Simbu and his screen presence does a lot to resuscitate the film, the script doesn't complement his efforts.(more)

Simbu-starrer, Sundar C directorial a tiring rehash of rehashes

It isn't that Sundar C can't do it because after all, this is the same man who gave us Ullathai Allithaa and Kalakalappu amidst several other hits. But isnt it definitely time for him to step out of his template and explore and probably say, Vandha pudhu idea odathan varuven?(more)

Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven is a templated commercial potboiler with STR being the saving grace.

VRV is an old wine put into an old bottle which could be found interesting for STR's screen presence. One might also feel that director Sundar C could write refreshing scenes to engage the audience in his upcoming projects, which was once his biggest strength.(more)
