An Earnest And Heartwarming Effort

The best aspect of Bakrid is that it showcases this emotion without ever getting into the veg vs non-veg debate or being judgemental about the food habits of individuals. In fact there is a scene where a cop arrests few persons for transporting cows (legally/illegaly? ) while mutton is being prepared for his lunch. So Bakrid doesn't take sides nor propagates anything, atleast explicitly.(more)

Vikranth shoulders a harmless film about animal love

Bakrid is a harmless film, a middling one that hits lower than it aspires to, due to inconsistencies. The film wants us to tear up when Rathinam finally realises that Sara is safest with him around. All I could muster was a hint of a smile. (more)

Vikranth delivers the best performance of his career in this moving film about man-animal love.

The director himself has cranked the camera the village scenes and the ones in Maharashtra and Rajasthan are captured intriguingly. Quite interestingly, the director brings in the Bakrid angle towards the climax again when Ratnam realises that his camel wouldnt be safe in the desert. Jagadeesan succeeds in trying to say through his story that humans, wherever they hail from, irrespective of their language and culture, are the same insensitive and cruel species while animals have a contrasting nature.(more)

A human-animal relationship that needed to be more effective

Thankfully, there's no laziness in Bakrid, but a lot of things seem to have sprung out of convenience. A character who speaks Hindi throughout conveniently starts talking in Tamil during a crucial scene. A lorry driver who seems to be selfish and wanting to make a quick buck conveniently becomes invested in the camel, and there are no scenes explaining the change of heart.(more)
