It might not be entertaining all through, but its heart is in the right place.

Maharshi is a simple story weighed down by unnecessary commercial elements. But do go watch this one if you're a Mahesh Babu fan, you will enjoy it, if the claps and screams in the theatre this reviewer went to were anything to go by. Watch it not just for Mahesh Babu and Allari Naresh's performance...(more)

Mahesh Babu's conviction holds this partly underwritten film together

At a runtime of close to three hours, Paidipally packs in way too much to justify the journey undertaken by the protagonist. The college segment, in particular, is dragged a tad too much. It is just way too much information about what kind of a guy Rishi is and the lack of emotional high makes it qu...(more)

Top-notch performances, decent humor, relatable social message, and Mahesh's screen presence are main asset...(more)

A predictable star vehicle for Mahesh Babu with a workable emotional core

Maharshi is a problematic film with big ideas but it tugs at heartstrings. Take out the farming sub-plot, Maharshi would've been a tiresome watch in which Rishi just won't shut up with his sermons on success. Mahesh Babu, as a billionaire and a farmer is acceptable, but he somehow struggles to fit i...(more)

A promising story is mired in the overdose of starry frills

The story of a man in a privileged position doing his bit at the grassroot level is an oft-repeated one. If a similar idea is to be revisited, it requires more emotional gravitas and less of the starry frills. By the time we see the 'padara padara' song where Rishi's crusade grows from strength to s...(more)
