Bundle of Cop Movie - Cliches

We also get to see director Mahendran in a minor role two years after his demise, which offers some bittersweet moments. But beyond these, nothing stands out. Even Prabhu Deva, in what is reportedly his 50th film and his first cop role, looks jaded.(more)

Prabhudeva can do only so much to save a cliched cop film

The initial set of scenes would test everyone's patience. Because there's literally nothing happening on screen. We see an uninterested Pon Manickavel leading an investigation. His subordinate, played by Baahubali Prabakar, loses his cool seeing Pon Manickavel's way of investigation. And we feel him too. In fact, more than Pon Manickavel, there's an undercover officer named Kailash (Charles Vinod) who carries out a much better investigation than Prabhudeva's Pon Manickavel. But, he's not the hero. You get the point, right?(more)

The heroic glorification doesn't add up much and the romantic angle between Prabhu Deva and Nivetha Pethuraj also ends up formulaic. (more)

Predictability sinks this cop drama

Pon Manickavel is a mishmash of police films of the future past. But thats not the real problem. It isnt a crime to be inspired by a bunch of successful films, but it is definitely a crime for an investigative thriller to be trite, and on that count, Pon Manickavel gets caught dead to rights.(more)
