A revenge thriller that scores high on atmospherics!!!

A tight and competent revenge thriller that is on the mark for the most part. Special mention about the grim mood and the consistent eerie atmosphere that we are rarely exposed to in Tamil cinema.(more)

If the film finally feels a little underwhelming, it is only because the initial portions are terrific

We get to experience the crime that set the protagonist on his vengeful path the same way he experienced it, and this makes the horror all the more chilling. If only had the director gone with this approach in the latter scenes, instead of turning the climax into yet another bash-them-up, Asuravadham would have ended up transcending its ambitions.(more)

Gripping revenge thriller worth a watch

The blood and gore could have been toned down a bit. But such a treatment is required for a serious film like this. And the flashback is also a bit predictable. Nevertheless, a gripping revenge thriller that's worth a watch especially if you are a fan of raw action.(more)

asikumar is riveting as a silent vigilante in this thrilling revenge saga

Asuravadham only sags a bit towards the end, when the back story is revealed, and at the climax when the hero literally takes on an army of goons. A predictable ending for an otherwise unpredictable thriller.(more)

Asuravadham is technically sound, a raw and rustic screenplay, but a not-so-exciting story

Director Maruthupandian garners attention for his interesting usage of the film language. With a more interesting plot and a perfect execution, Asuravadham could have gone down as one of the notable emotional action thrillers in Tamil cinema.(more)

A solid vendetta thriller, starring M Sasikumar, that reimagines a typical story with treatment and craft

At the end of this narration, again, the director pulls off a nifty trick. That's the thing with a hard-working filmmaker - even the cliches seem less cliched.(more)

An intelligent revenge thriller

Yes, there is blood shed but the plot and screenplay completely justifies it. We have seen SR Kathir's camera travel along with the characters in Subramaniapuram, he has once again repeated the magic in Asuravadham. Kathir's long shot in the climax is a masterclass stuff, as his camera effortlessly run behind the characters in chase sequences. Overall, Asuravadham is an intelligent revenge thriller with hard hitting moments and is a must watch!(more)

Vigilante Sasikumar delivers a thrilling tale

On the whole, director Maruthupandian has treated a sensitive issue towards the end and the underlying philosophy is much needed for the society today. He exceeds as a great writer because he does not explain to the antagonist why Sasikumar is seeking revenge.(more)

Audience Vadham

Sasikumar's Asuravadham is a below average thriller that has a wafer thin revenge story line that fails to bring the paper work on to screenplay.(more)

A fairly well-made revenge drama that shows not tells

There a few shots that make for a good visual experience even though it might not seem logically possible. For example, Samayan recognises Saravanan in a dark field from his lit cigarette. Standing close to a light source himself, it isn't possible for Samayan to spot such a dim source of light across a few yards. However, it still makes for a visually intriguing shot. Similarly, a fight sequence is constructed with the light from lightning but the screen lights up in such continuous intervals that you wonder whether Zeus has a stopwatch in hand.(more)

half well-done

For those who like to watch Sasikumar's movies for its semi-urban, rural lifestyle in the South, this film is very generic even though it is set in a city in the South. Despite the shortcomings, the filmmaker deserves appreciation for employing an interesting narrative device to create suspense and drama.(more)

Much seen plot with sluggish pace, but the different approach makes it a not-bad drama.

The progression isn't gripping as some sequences are repetitive, and dulls out the viewing experience. Editing could have been better as the treatment fails to work when the current situation is forced to get revealed later. Other than the hero and villain, none of the supporting characters are powerful. Also there is a slight disconnect in the flow at some parts. Few artists are left over abruptly without proper justification.(more)

Wonderfully Crafted, If A Little Over The Top

The climax of the movie involves a fairly elaborate flashback that tells you why youre watching this movie. The denouement, one with plot twists coming so quickly, and yet so very naturally, leaves the viewer at once stunned and angry.(more)
