Yet Another Oh-So-Preachy Saga By Samuthirakani

Though the base of the film builds with various characters, soon the narrative reaches a tapered end with no substance to the plots & conflicts built in the initial few minutes. A fairly engaging political drama despite some blemishes

It doesn't bite off more than it can chew. For instance, Sangathalaivan doesn't try to address national politics or pretend to be a racy thriller. Instead, it is a slow-burn drama that deals with a localised issue and takes its time to set things up. Both the narrative and the characterisation give us the pleasant feeling of reading a novel from the 90s. (more)

Despite having a few interestingly-written characters, Sangathalaivan is another half-baked attempt which relies more on conveying ideologies

Marimuthu proves that the role of a merciless factory owner is a cakewalk for him. Sunulakshmi fits well into the shoes of a hapless girl who undergoes different struggles. Ramya Subramaniam and Vikram Anand do justice to their characters.(more)

Sanga Thalaivan is the film adaptation of the novel Thariyudan. The problem is that the director fails to pack the content of the novel within a two-hour film. The editing is shoddy and we get the feel that several scenes were chopped off to speed up the proceedings. (more)
