A slice of life drama that is low key and yet entertaining

As the title suggests, the film is about the hero deciding to stand up and fight for something. But the film as such reserves very little time for this conflict and what we have is a slice of life drama that is more about the characters and their interactions. The humour is consistently good and the small town vibe is apparent. (more)

Even with its unhurried pace, Nimir stands tall with its natural flow! Fix yourself to watch a simple yet genuine movie and you are sure to enjoy Nimir.

Nimir, though, has an intensity that would attract all kinds of watchers, even if it might seem a little less entertaining due to its offbeat pattern that stands out from commercial mass-driven films. The quicker you get into the skin and mood of Nimir, the sooner you would start enjoying its natural flow.(more)

This Udhayanidhi Stalin film is a faithful remake

Nimir's honest, laid-back narrative is bound to make you reel in nostalgia if you haven't seen the original. For those who have, expect a fairly faithful remake that overreaches at points to satisfy the mainstream and you wont be disappointed.(more)

NIMIR MOVIE REVIEW

Priyadarshan fails to convincingly establish the relationships between the various characters and the milieu. The largely functional performances don't help (Udhayanidhi tries, but it isn't enough), and we never become emotionally involved with the characters, including Selvam. For the most parts, there is no energy in the scenes to keep us engaged. Perhaps those who haven't seen the original might find it tolerable, but make no mistake, the film only coasts along on the suspense in the plot will Selvam have his revenge? - and the understated humour in the situations. Priyadarshan and his visuals elevate this bland revenge-drama

Essentially, the film is based on domino effect how a chain of events are set off due to the cumulative effect of an event. Incidentally, the plot is based on a true story and since it is set in a small town like Tenkasi -where people keep track of each others' affairs and are more interested in the lives of others - the plot works, but what the film lacks is a strong protagonist like Fahadh Faasil, who was the driving force of the original (Maheshinte Prathikaaram) with his natural but arresting screen presence. While Udhay is decent in the titular character, he's no close enough match to Fahadh.(more)

Go for it to enjoy some clean comedy and a rural story that comes after a long time

Director Priyadarshan's caliber is evident in the father -son relationship and both the characters arc pertaining to it. There are also mediocre scenes that raise the doubt whether they are from the veteran's hands. On the whole one has to point out that this is definitely not on par with his previous body of work.(more)

Stunning visuals make up for insipid drama in this Udhayanidhi Stalin film

Nimir is the remake of Fahadh Faasil's Maheshinte Prathikaaram. Except for teasing with stunning visuals, thanks to cinematographer NK Ekambaram, it fails to recreate the magic created by the original.(more)
