Rowthiram is just another mindless action masala, which is more torture than fury.
It's the meandering script, the trite dialogues and one-dimensional characters that wreck the pace. Add to that enormous plot-holes, and you have general mayhem. The audience begins hooting at every tragic scene. Jiiva, as the man of few words who harbours deep emotions, has obviously found the part easy; his acting credentials make sure that even such a one-sided character keeps you moderately interested. After a certain point, though, it descends into tedium. (more)

Rage that could have been more powerful
Rowthiram has positives going in its favor. If the screen play had been more linear and taut, it would have made a huge impact. For a debut director, Gokul shows promise. He attempts to pack in his first film, romance and a lot of action and succeeds fairly. Some scenes are neatly done especially the family and the romance blocks. However, these are not sufficient to buoy the story up as there is inconsistency in the pace. The long action sequences also exhausts. The snag for Rowthiram comes from its lengthiness. (more)

Jiiva's Rowthiram had it all, but somehow director Gokul’s story and direction fails to impress. The first 10 minutes of the film is terrific, but peters out, as the film starts dragging.
Rowthiram suffers due to lack of originality and a proper script. The climax is not convincing for a film which is basically mass masala. At 2 hours 45 mints, it drags big time.(more)
