Engaging watch that falls in between an adept thriller and a fascinating drama!

On the surface, the film is a thriller about a kidnap and a retired police officer trying to solve the case. Where it stands out is the manner in which it establishes the emotional baggage of the primary characters. While the 'what happens next tension?' is very much present, we are also not rooting for anyone in particular because there is this justification for each character for his/her actions. (more)

For a debut effort, Echcharikkai comes across as quite a solid thriller. Sarjun keeps things engaging with the cat-and-mouse game between the criminals and the cop. He gives us the backstory of David and Thomas right at the beginning, which adds an emotional angle to their relationship and keeps it ambiguous.(more)

In a lackluster screenplay, we usually expect the music to take center-stage, but Sundaramurthy's background score doesn't push the boundaries. Rather, it comes off as functional. The cinematography is praiseworthy, and the cuts are passable. Overall, Echcharikkai is a watchable abduction thriller that lacks the thrill in demand.(more)
