Just another average scary movie

If you are looking for a hardcore scary movie, 'RUM' is probably not the best idea. But if you are a horror movie fan,'RUM' might not completely disappoint you for it has an interesting revenge and a drama twist along with some occasional humor wits from Vivek.(more)

Unspookable acts

But the screenplay isn't able to tie any of this together. Rum feels incoherent, and you wonder if it's because the director was trying to be avant-garde, or whether he just ran out of film. The scene transitions are abrupt. The ending is literally up in the air. Early word said the title doesnt mean what you think. It means "verdict." Theyre right. The film has no spirit.(more)

A horror comedy that has nothing new to offer

Director Sai Bharath can be appreciated for not using any slapstick comedies in the film, which is a very common phenomenon in recent horror comedies. On the other hand, he could have worked more on the screenplay, as the film lacks clarity and moves cluelessly in its initial moments.(more)

Rum Movie Review

The film needs more visual flourishes like a flashback portion in the second half when the past and the present unfold simultaneously. Sadly, we never get them. Even exciting elements like a character discovering the presence of ghosts when he steps outside its compound (its night inside, while it is broad daylight elsewhere) or another character appearing both on top and under a violently shaking bed are handled with indifference. No wonder that we exit the theatre in low spirits.(more)

Neither spooky nor a full-fledged entertainer

Neither does it help the film in any way. Narain has hardly has any scope and is just about adequate. Mia George in an insignificant role has been wasted. And the flashback portions are predictable with no solid story. Anirudh's songs were hummable in audio, but when you watch it along with the visuals they don't sync. BGM is decent. Director Sai Bharat could have worked more on the screenplay, which lacks the kind of eerie elements that are normally associated with this genre.(more)
