Ranveer Singh's menacing Khilji act leaves you transfixed in this epic film
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film is a visual delight and thoroughly entertaining fare, courtesy the epic performance by Ranveer Singh. It talks about Rajput pride and there is nothing that will offend anyone. At least, I couldn't find anything that can be termed offensive in anyway. And there is no dream sequence between Khilji and Padmavati.(more)

PADMAAVAT MOVIE REVIEW
The director's expertise in heightening opulence and grandeur is well-known, further distinguishable in 3D. Cinematographer Sudeep Chatterjee compliments him by beautifully capturing some jaw-dropping scenery. However, the effects in the action/ war scenes don't meet the expectations raised by a film of this scale. Also, the songs don't do much to further the narrative other than providing visual delight. Granted, it could do with a tauter screenplay and shorter run-time but 'Padmaavat' is an entertaining, large canvas experience, brought to life with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's stroke of visual brilliance.(more)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali couches regressive, opportunistic messaging in exhausting visual splendor
Padmaavat's disturbing ideology � misogynistic, communal and homophobic � is bad enough. The final nail in the coffin is the lack of chemistry between Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, which made me long for the Aishwarya Rai-Hrithik Roshan pairing in the equally lavishly produced, vastly superior Jodhaa Akbar. Remember that scene in which Queen Jodhaa peeps out from behind curtains at the shirtless emperor? It was a scene crackling with electricity and longing. Watching Padmaavat's lead couple together though, I could not for the life of me understand why Padmavati gave a fig � or her life � for H.R.H Ratan.(more)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Boring Film Doesn't Do Justice To Deepika Padukone
Bhansali's last film, Bajirao Mastani, was an undeniably compelling one - here's my review - and while that, too, felt overlong, it was a dramatic film with a heavily plotted storyline that featured many a conflict.(more)

This Sanjay Leela Bhansali film belongs to Ranveer Singh
One way of doing it is to stuff the beginning and the middle acts with so much glitter and glamour that we are expected to be swept away. Which we dutifully do: there�s a kind of beauty in the way Bhansali creates his frames, even if your eye begins to be overwhelmed by it. Deepika Padukone has never been lovelier. She wears those stunning costumes, never letting them wear her, even if her waist is decorously covered in the Ghoomar song (alert viewers may see a flash of the said body part in other parts of the film). Shahid Kapoor sports kohl in his eyes, and clearly articulated muscles in his chest, often left bare. But this film belongs to Ranveer Singh's Khilji, who bites into mounds of meat (serving well the prototype of the Muslim savage) and his part with such relish that you can taste it.(more)

Padmaavat is sparkling, extravagant, dazzling, magnificent and wonderful. It's a feast for the eyes. It leaves you craving for something more meaningful than a mere re-telling of Jayasi's poem. But it has enough to bedazzle you, so go for the sheen and Ranveer Singh�s lunacy. After all, Padmaavat has passed so many hurdles to reach you.(more)

An insipid love letter to Rajputs
In Padmaavat, however, neither does he manage to hit the right notes when it comes to the soundtrack nor is there a single sequence which lingers on. No character reaches out; no moment is able to move you. Padmaavat may well be Bhansali�s most sterile and insipid outing since Saawariya and Guzaarish. Watch Padmaavat for the visual extravaganza that it is. And for Ranveer Singh, who deserves an extra star for Khilji. You take Khilji home with you; out of the theatre. Everything else is done with in the jauhar ki jwala.(more)
