A Saccharine Sweet Tale Of Romance With A Twist

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, the director of Bareilly Ki Barfi, made a splash in Bollywood with her debut film Nil Battey Sannata, a film which not only won awards galore, but also everyones hearts alike. Even though she tried to do the same with Bareilly Ki Barfi, the sad part is that, she succeeds only to a certain extent. (more)

Trio of Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao make a delightful entertainer

Director Ashwiny keeps the narrative simple. The music is in-sync with the tone of the film. Ayushmann is on point with his character. Despite the flaws in his character, you root for him. Rajkummar is a delight as he switches from a meek guy to a rowdy dude back-and-forth easily. While Kriti shares great chemistry with both the actors, it's the scenes between Ayushmann and Rajkummar that draw maximum laughs. (more)

Not as good as its packaging

Ashwini clearly wanted to make a love triangle set in the small town with comic punches. The film is highly inspired by the romantic cult of our times, like Saajan, that featured Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan. The plot of the film is not even an inch different from it but this film stands out with its comical elements.(more)

Movie Review

BAREILLY KI BARFI is adapted from the book The Ingredients Of Love by Nicolas Barreau. Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jains story is weak and needed quite a bit of polishing. Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jains screenplay is effective at places but otherwise, it drags. Nitesh Tiwari and Shreyas Jains dialogues however are terrific and probably the best thing of the film. Ashwiny Iyer Tiwaris direction is uncomplicated and simple and thats her biggest victory. But the director, who helmed the well-made NIL BATTEY SANNATA last year, could have done a better job and kept the film tighter.(more)

Kriti Sanon Makes This Sweet Concoction Work

Bareilly Ki Barfi is a loose adaptation by Nitesh Tiwari (the writer and director of Dangal) and Shreyas Jain from French writer Nicolas Barreau's 2012 English-language novel, The Ingredients of Love. The story is transported to the small Uttar Pradesh town of Bareilly where the emotions and aspirations of the young clash head-on with the entrenched traditions and mores.(more)

Kriti-Ayushmann-Rajkummar deliver a perfect rom-com with extra dose of comedy

Bareilly Ki Barfi is a light-hearted rom-com which will make you laugh in every frame. Ayushmann and Rajkummar's chemistry is the icing on the cake. Kriti wins hearts with de-glam avatar as well. The songs of Bareilly Ki Barfi are also catchy. Bollywood needs more movies like this.(more)

A screwball comedy you must watch

Bareilly Ki Barfi's streetwise attitude fits perfectly with its protagonist Bitti Mishra, who's too much in love with the supreme juices of life to pause and dwell over life. An electricity board employee who walks into offices with her scooter helmet on, Kriti Sanon's character isn't pitched at the height of a rebel, but a hedonist -- she loves her addictions and they have become a part of her everyday routine.(more)

Movie Review

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari who won notices for her directorial debut Nil Battey Sannata, is in top form again. She puts heart into this comedy and the flawless writing makes it that much more effective. Every time you guffaw at the antics of the lead and supporting cast, you are reminded that there is so much humour in our daily routine which we have forgotten to stop and savour.(more)

Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanons film is sweet and charming

Bareilly Ki Barfi is sweet and delightful. Its hilarious one-liners like, Ye toh aastin ka anaconda nikla and Ye Bitti raat bhar kahan ghumti rehti hai, ladki hai koi chudail thode na hai, totally work. This light-hearted comedy refrains from being slapstick and slowly weaves its charm. (more)
