Director Simbu has worked over time for actor Simbu but has failed in the screen play department resulting in uneven narration. Editor Antony should have been extra vigilant as the film runs to almost 3 hours. Twenty minutes of the film could well be trimmed to enable a crispy narration. On a positive note, the glamorous quotient of three heroines along with music and the youth element can play to Vallavan's advantage. (more)

Worth your time and money if you are just looking at entertainment.
Silambarasan wears many hats in his first attempt as a director, writer, singer and hero with Vallavan, a glossy packaged youth mass entertainer. But Simbu's story and screenplay takes the back seat, and the plot goes haywire. One of the major highlights in the film is Yuvan's tangy music and background score. Priyan's camera and Rajeevan's art work adds a rich look to the film. If you are looking for some wholesome entertainment, then Vallavan is worth your time and money. (more)

A maker raring to go.
The Simbu-Nayan on-screen chemistry sets the screen on fire. S.V.Shekher's timing in dialogue is admirable. Simbu has to be lauded for utilizing the cast well, and all characters big and small, have both uniqueness and purpose. Yuvan Shanker's melodic approach makes 'Vallava ... ' hum-worthy. Cinematographer Priyan's tone, angles and lighting, and Rajeevan's art need mention here. (more)

Forbidden love.
Vallavan has excellent cinematography combined with racy background score making it for engrossing viewing. Silambarasan occupies the screen all through, while Reema Sen has impressed all eve with her limited screen space. Nayantara and Sandhya do their best. However, the real hero of the movie has been Yuvan Shankar Raja. His peppy numbers and brisk musical score help sustain the momentum in the movie. The rest of the cast including Santhanam, S Ve Shekhar fits well.(more)
