Where are the jokes?

The film does have scope for enough laughter and certainly actors who can act as the medium to achieve this. But nothing actually comes together. The only solace is that the scenes keep moving quite rapidly. The film did leave me with one question though. Why is no one calling this film bold? We have the hero who still gives a shy glance to his now married former lover who too reciprocates this. Not quite bold you might think until I tell you that she would be his future mother in law!!! Heck, there is even a scene where she catches him in his birth suit below the waist and she hardly turns away.(more)

Go for it if episodes of comedy is all that you are looking for.

he original film worked to a great extent due to the rural flavor, but this remake is robbed of that and there is only a sense of dj vu in most of the scenes especially the long drawn out election episodes. The film fails to impress as a whole due to the inconsistent screenplay and the 80s style presentation. The team could have done well if they had taken as reference Sundar Cs Kalakalappu and Theeya Velai Seiyanum Kumaru or even Aranmanai for a master class on how to perfectly balance high voltage comedy and slick film-making.(more)

Sunder C steals the show

One of the ways in which MK differs vastly from the original is that this remake is largely stripped of the pastoral element. The screenplay could have been paced a lot better and some of the visuals look really dated and not of this time and age. Go for it for the comedy and Sundar Cs showcase.(more)

Muthina Kathirikai is a tedious watch

There is very little to be said about Siddharth Vipins music and cinematography by Bhanu Murugan. The narrative is slow and tedious and even at two hours 10 minutes, the film seems awfully long. The Malayalam version of the film may have worked but debutant director Venkats Muthina Kathirikai is an ordinary attempt with lackluster performances, weak screenplay and an overly enthusiastic cast.(more)

A Tedious Tale

Muthina Kathirikai could've easily been a laugh riot. But, with political set-up taking over comedy sequences, the film turns out to be a tedious tale. (more)
