Diluted mission!

As usual, Suriya has given his best. His commitment towards work shows. Priya Mani demonstrates that she is after all a National Award winner. Vivek Oberoi is effective in his role and his body language is noteworthy. Radhika Apte makes an impact. There are many other artists who do their roles satisfactorily.Dialogues by T J Gnanavel (and co) set the apt tone for retribution. (more)

Dark and disturbing.

Ram Gopal Varma's Raktha Charithiram is a dark morbid tale, and is made in a documentary style. Suriya's astonishingly life-like performance is the highlight of the film. The moment he appears on screen, you cannot take your eyes off him. Vivek Oberoi is equal foil to Suriya, and shows his character is vulnerable and impulsive. Priyamani and Radhika Apte are very good and are apt for their roles. The other actor's in small roles are also impressive.(more)

Suriya shines.

One thing is for certain: the title Ratha Sarithram (Bloody History) is completely justified. It's definitely not meant for family audiences. For starters, Vivek Oberoi and Suriya fit their characters so perfectly that you're able to devote your entire attention to them. That pretty much seems to have been RGV's point as well. Priya Mani and Radhika Apte fit their roles well too. The rest add color to the background. (more)

Violence unplugged!

Surya's intense, intimidating eyes are a highlight. And the actor, true to the part, is brutal throughout. Vivek Oberoi is a commendable foil. A subdued portrayal comes from Priya Mani, but sadly the potential of the role hasn't been tapped fully. Radhika Apte hovers in the periphery. Raththa Sarithiram is easily one of our bloodiest films. Tales of vendetta have been in vogue since time immemorial. It's the treatment that can make a difference. Here it does, but the rawness makes the impact minimal.(more)

Blood winner.

Thanks to a stellar performance by Suriya and intense show by Priyamani and Vivek Oberoi, Raththa Charithiram makes it count. Add to it Shatrughan Sinha's role, the movie leaves one spellbound. Technically, it’s one of RGV's best. The slick editing, different color tones used by cinematographer Amol Rathod adds to the momentum. Especially he has captured the stunt sequences really well.(more)

A bloody tale.

Director Ram Gopal Varma seems to be getting better and better in romancing bad men on screen and this is definitely RGV's best attempt till date. There is blood everywhere, but it has been justified with a strong storyline, characters and screenplay. Amol Rathod's camera takes a 360 degree turn in scenes, which is magical in introducing characters. Rattha Charithram is all about the Trimurti (trinity): Surya, Vivek Oberoi and Ram Gopal Varma. If there is genre called bloody vengeance, Ram Gopal Verma is its godfather.(more)
