Good performances , stressful outcome
Kamalhassan's intention to make a warm, funny and feel-good Anbe Sivam has ended up sadly as another predictable and corny film. Though Sundar.C is the director the film it seems to be ghost directed by the self-obsessed superstar himself! Expectedly, the show is all but stolen by the charismatic Kamalhassan who is outstanding. Madhavan manages to gain our affection. Yet, despite the good performances the outcome is still stressful on the nerves.(more)

Why would Kamal make him self so ugly?
The film, in fact, suffers from the disease of excess. Director C Sundar is invisible. Madhavan performs to the standards he has set himself. His breezy presence enlivens otherwise dull moments. Overall, the film tries to do too many things, and ends up failing at most, if not all, of them.(more)

A laudable effort.
Kamal Haasan may falter now and then in his choice of roles, but just when he is falling into a rut, like a phoenix he rises and returns with a bang — as he does with "Anbe Sivam". Kamal's versatility has been showcased yet again, with striking impact. Well-defined characters, a strong storyline and intelligent screenplay are the other vital ingredients of "Anbe Sivam". Those who wail about flimsy film plots and formula fare, in all fairness ought to encourage laudable ventures such as these. (more)
