Well made but with a manipulative climax!!!

The film keeps you adequately interested and most of the humour is nicely done. The scenes involving the lead pair living under the same roof with different intentions work big time. Watch out for how the menace caused by the snoring of our hero is communicated to him.(more)

A simple and straightforward romantic tale from Selva Family.

MNM is no different with occasional jokes and sequences. With only two major characters, Sridhar's camera work is limited within four walls and does a neat job. Music from newbie Amrit is clean from clichs; the BGM is simply sweet leaving apt silences before taking notes during sensitive sequences.(more)

A watchable, bold, vintage Selvaraghavan story about two contrasting individuals, you wish had more consistent screenplay

Directed by his assistant turned wife Gitanjali, MNM is as idiosyncratic as a regular love story. As the film is just about two contrasting individuals living a domestic life, the screenplay goes on an up and down ride resulting in inconsistency.(more)

Movie Review

Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam too is a typical Selvaraghavan film yet stands out with debutant director Gitanjali playing it out with admirable ease. The biggest strength of Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam is the strong writing and characterization of the heroine and bold dialogues. Newcomer Balakrishna Kola has given his best to make the character believable and real. (more)

Many Selvaraghavan touches in a mixed bag

Maalai Nerathu also brings to Tamil cinema a new, important issue, which I cant quite mention without spoiling the film. But suffice it to say that its a bit disappointing that not enough screen time is spent delineating the after-effects on the victim, despite an entire half occurring after the incident. Sure, movies arent documentaries, but itd have been quite interesting to see the scars on the victims personality, to see how their everyday life is affected. Theres one shot in the bathroom, and a couple of mental flashes to that fateful night, but little else.(more)

Selvaraghavan's intriguing and fearless writing and Amrit's pleasant background score, the film is blessed with a good technical crew. (more)
