An Audacious Attempt
There are a handful of scenes that could hurt your stomach with laughter. Again this depends on your willingness to surrender to the madness on screen. If not Pokkiri Raja could turn into a nightmare for you. The actors too do not seem to have the flair to pull this one off completely. They are not bad. In fact all of them are decent. But if this had to work it really needed something else.They had to bring something form their own to the table. Ramdoss and Yogi Babu shine in places but the laughs are not consistent. There is this scene where the henchmen dance erotically to Vaseegara under fear. It had me in splits. You got to suspend disbelief and enjoy a film like this. Good plot which could have been done full justice with a better screenplay
The lone purpose of making this film is to engross the audience with no holds barred entertainment. Searching for logic here might waste your time. Pokkiri Raja manages to mildly engage you throughout because of its unpredictable narrative pattern. When you expect a serious battle between the lead and the antagonist, you are offered with a comedy sequence. The battle between Jiiva and Sibiraj could have been a little more intense. (more)

Brilliant Idea Gone Awry!
Director Ramprakash Rayappa has to be appreciated for his attempt to bring in a new genre into Tamil cinema. But the execution is not quite there, making the film tedious. (more)
