Oru Naal Koothu - A breezy little film that is actually more

The film is never judgmental and paints no one black. The characters are well defined and what is more interesting is that the director has not tried to give any reason as to why these people behave this way.(more)

Like a little dance of life

Still, I walked out appreciating the directors determination to not opt for easy happy endings. At this point, hes better at character development than plot development but thats no small thing. And individual scenes are directed very well. Note the stretch where Lakshmi gathers some guts and calls a man who said he liked her. She steps out of the house. She dials his number. He doesnt pick up. She goes back inside. Then he notices the missed call. He calls. Over the sound of the ringing phone, we see her scurrying out again. Its like a little dance of life.(more)

A Refreshing Take On Contemporary Marriage!

Justin Prabhakaran's music stands out in the technical department. Both his songs and background score play a huge role in enhancing the overall feel. While Gokul's cinematography adds solidity to the film, editor VJ Sabu Joseph could've shortened the movie's length, especially in the second half. Screenplay by Nelson is quite enjoyable as the movie manages to keep you interested till the very end. Oru Naal Koothu is a refreshing take on contemporary marriage, which most of us will relate to. ONK is a decent take on marriage alliances, but lacks an engaging screenplay.

Dineshs makeover is refreshing after seeing him in clichd bearded rough looks. Ramesh Tilak as an RJ is a surprise choice and Charle with limited time space proves his worth. Balasaravanan provides the occasional laughter. Mia George does not have too much of talking to do, so has to convey all the emotions through her expression. Even though all the leads have done their bit, one feels some of them could have emoted better, especially during few heart-rending scenes which look flat.(more)
