A decent rural flick that entertains and engages; easily a onetime watch

Technically the cinematography and music are functional working in sync with the directors vision. A song or two could have been done away with although they are just minor niggles. A white man as heros friend mouthing dialogues on our culture and sensibilities appears a little off beat, but you slowly warm up to him as the story unfolds. Toting it up, Mapla Singam is a film that has all the elements of a rural based, simple entertainer with no major complaints.(more)

A tedious watch

Cinematography by Tharun Balaji is good but the films editor Vivek Harshan should have trimmed minimum fifteen minutes of the current running time. Bottom line is if you are a fan of formulaic movies, you might enjoy this but others, please stay away! (more)

A neat rural entertainer that can be watched with family

Vemal fits well in this role and he shows phenomenal improvement in dancing. There are a couple of fight scenes as well. Anjali is perfect in the role of a well-educated sensible and bold woman though there is nothing big for her to perform. Radharavi yet again proves that he is a seasoned performer. Songs by Raghunandan are listenable but one or two of them could have been done away with considering the length of the film. Rerecording and cinematography are adequate.(more)

A flat comedy with serious ambitions

Mapla Singam isnt disappointing merely because the jokes dont work, it disappoints because it would have been great to see a comedy with progressive ideas doing well in the hinterland.(more)
