Lives upto the original

It is a welcome relief to see an edge of the seat thriller in Tamil without resorting to hasty screenplay, abbreviated dialogues, forced characterization, abrupt editing, loud background scores among many other commercial compromises. The director deserves credit for making a nail-biting crime drama with no action sequences. (more)

Outstandingly Brilliant

Jeethu Joseph's sticks to the Indian desi roots and takes a bafflingly gratifying non-genre tack, concentrating on intensity and brilliant scene build up without losing any steam out from the drama and emotions it encounters during its process. Making it a uniquely different individual thriller that packs the punch and rolls a significantly relevant message in today's times of power and MMS crimes.(more)

A World-Class Actor's Date With An Extra-Ordinary Script

We all know that Papanasam is a winning script and retaining Jeethu Joseph has helped immensely. But when a performer called Kamal Haasan takes up such a project, magic on screen is rest assured.(more)

Spectacular thriller interwoven with emotions

Jeethu Joseph has not made any changes to the original script but has taken the help of dialogue writer that adds some sort of humour. The characterisations and moreover the casting of actors brings forth a great impact. Screenplay is the major strength of this film and it holds the complete power of actors and technicians. (more)

Papanasam is a faithful remake of Drishyam with an authentic local flavor and more detailing from the original

Drishyam was perhaps one of the tightest scripts in Indian cinema but Papansam is also impeccable and it is note worthy that Jeethu Joseph has corrected all those unidentifiable minor logic loopholes in the remake which indeed gives a fresh feel to the audience who have already seen the original. Kamal Haasan's back as we once knew him

The directorial touch of Joseph is seamless. The story and script are his as well. A must watch for those fans of Kamal who have been waiting to see him as an actor not just a star driven to stunts and, of course, Gauthami, who would certainly rekindle memories of her great performances.(more)

Papanasam is a worthy remake of Drishyam

Joseph repeats many of his cast members like Asha Sarath as IG Geetha and reveals a better understanding of her anguish than in Drishyam. And then there is Kamal Haasan. Mohanlal set the bar unreachably high but a valiant Haasan gives it his own fresh take.He brings in his knowledge as a filmmaker who knows more than the script. (more)

A fulfilling experience and a must watch film

The ingenuity of Papanasam is to be found in its writing. Although the plot and storyline are rather simple, the characters have been given a deftness of touch that makes them not exceed their limits. A large part of the movie is about trudging the moral landscape which in turn makes us emote. Theres a human being dead here, and Kamal Haasan is in the centre of this storm. (more)

A faithful remake, a solid thriller

plot is so strong that all this, ultimately, matters little. Plus, there's the leading man. Suyambulingam is a cable-TV operator. And a cinema fanatic, like Kamal Haasan. This seems to be the season for meta reflections on the actor.(more)

A gritty remake that is equally as strong as the original

The beauty of Joseph's story is cocooned in universal truth and hence will stand the test of time. Man is selfish. He's willing to go to any length to protect those he loves. If the price to pay for love is heavy, his determination to shoulder the angst is heavier. (more)
