A charming and happy rural tale which is fairly engaging.
AK is supported by a strong story, stronger dialogues and great characters but it might fail to work with all kinds of audience. There is an undercurrent of situational humor running throughout the movie that is intelligent and heartwarming. On the performance side, all the characters are memorable and have performed well. Music by Illayaraja fits perfectly with the movie's plot and none of the songs are forced in. Cinematography by Theni Eashwar is an added advantage. (more)

Its a good, very sweet and simple film.
Suseendran has come out with another beautiful feel good film that pulls at your heart strings. Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai's story line is simple and straightforward without any unnecessary twists and is set against a rural milieu. There is something new in the plot and treatment along with Ilayaraja's outstanding music score. The real heroes of the film are its story and screenplay writer Bhaskar Sakthi, music director Ilayaraja and Suseenthiran. Remarkable casting has resulted in some fine performances by key players. Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai is brilliant.
There are some movies that are truly timeless: the characters, the plot, the settings and even conversations have an appeal that reach beyond a certain period, and stay with you long after the film is over. Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai is one such film. And it looks like director Suseendran has done it again. Baskar Sakthi, whose story this is and who has written the dialogues has a fine handle on both characters and sequences. Maestro Ilaiyaraja proves his mastery yet again.(more)

Innovative attempt.
Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai is an interesting attempt that stays within the format of commercial cinema even while steering clear of formula! Ilaiyaraja's contribution is invaluable. The thin line of humor that runs through the entire film is enjoyable. On the flip side, there are a few ‘why's and ‘how's that gnaw you. But the director's skilled craftsmanship makes you forget the minor flaws. Probably only Suseendran could have found hero material in Appukutty — such a choice needs a lot of conviction. Commendable indeed!(more)

Horse and happening.
Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai by Suseenthiran is more a children's tale narrated with utmost maturity capturing the emotions and sentiments of rural people with all sincerity. The story is wafer-thin, but the screenplay and dialogues are its life and blood giving a fresh feel. Appukutty is tailor-made for the role. Saranya Mohan in a breezy role walks away with applause. If Suseenthiran is the captain of the ship, cinematography by Theni Eashwar, dialogues by Baskar Sakthi and re-recording by Ilayaraja are its guiding force. (more)

Music by maestro Ilaiyaraaja is another major highlight of the film. Cinematography by Theni Eashwar and Kasi Viswanathan's perfect editing deserve special accolades. Overall, a simple story, racy screenplay laced with some emotional flashbacks, mesmerizing music and humorous dialogues, which is Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai! (more)
