Balanced commercial mix.

Maanja Velu is a fine mix of all the elements that go towards making a mass masala entertainer. There is the happy family, romance, and ample scope for comedy, oodles of sentiments, action and revenge. One feels that director A.Venkatesh (in charge of the screenplay) could have had a better grip on the proceedings. Maanja Velu is hardly a bad or boring movie. It has got a screenplay that maintains consistent tempo and some top class performers who make it worth a watch.(more)

Mass masala.

Director Venkatesh has dished out a an average run of the mill mass masala cocktail which is quite entertaining in the first half but fizzles out in the second half. Karthik and Prabhu are the major plus in the acting department. Arun Vijay does everything required to be a super action hero. There is a comedy track in the film by Santhanam, Shakeela, Ganja Karuppu, Lollu Sabha Manohar, which is a scream. Mani Sharma is totally out of form and fails. (more)

Man with a mission.

A Venkatesh, known for his commercial cocktails, has not disappointed fans this time too. A perfect one for those who love masala flicks. The movie, inspired by Telugu blockbuster 'Lakshyam', is racy from the word go thanks to bubbly Arun Vijay. Giving him good company is yesteryear hero Karthik. The comedy by Santhanam, Ganja Karuppu and team is a laugh-athon. Mani Sharma's tunes are pacy and racy while Venkatesh's camera is cool. Another highlight of the film is Kanal Kannan's stunts. A perfect mass entertainer.

Maanja Velu is an entertainer that will satisfy all types of audiences. It is tailor-made story to perfectly match Karthik (who is back after a gap) and the performance is a cakewalk for him. Arun Vijay excels in all areas. Comedy by Santhanam, 'Lollu Sabha' Manohar, Ganja Karuppu and Shakeela is one of the best comedy tracks in the recent past. Mani Sharma's music is another highlight of the film. Venkatesh's camera and Kanal Kannan's stunts have supported the movie well.(more)
