A passable cruise!
K.S.Ravikumar who understands the semiotics of film making has attempted to narrate the story in his style but its languorous pace works against it. Although the story is interesting, the film unfolds very slowly and does not gather momentum at any stage. The script sparkles in patches and fails to engage the audience completely. Dialogues are enjoyable in some places. Cinematographer Manush Nandan adds value to the film. Gauthami's stylish costumes work right for the script. Overall, Manmadhan Ambu is an entertainer but in parts.(more)

Kamal Haasan delivers with Manmadhan Ambu.
Kamal Haasan seems to have wanted to do a serious story, and suddenly been beset with the expectations of a commercial film. The first two hours of the movie don't disappoint. There's depth in the characters and storyline. The humor is mild, subtle and gives way a lot to deep emotion. Manush Nandan's cinematography deserves a dozen pats in this K S Ravikumar venture. Devi Sri Prasad excels in the background score as well as the songs. (more)

Hitting bull's eye.
'Manmadhan Ambu' does have strong script backed by a taut screenplay. It has some entertaining elements, sentiments and emotions. Lace it up with Kamal Haasan's perfection, Madhavan's buoyant performance, bubbly Trisha and Sangeetha, Ravikumar's directorial touches and Udhayanidhi Stalin's production values, the film no doubt impresses. Devi Sri Prasad impresses with foot-taping peppy numbers. Three cheers to Kamal Haasan, 'Manmadhan Ambu' is a perfect holiday entertainer with Kamal stamp all over it.(more)

Romantic breezy entertainer.
It's Kamal all the way; like an all-rounder, he is right there in all departments. Madhavan is not far behind. Pretty lass Trisha's subtle emotions need special mention. Sangeetha has given her best and fits the bill perfectly. K.S.Ravikumar's racy screenplay makes the film more interesting. Music by Devi Sri Prasad is apt and perfect. Cinematography by Manush Nandan is rich and sophisticated and Shaan Mohammed's editing is neat and sleek.(more)
