One side love - honest and likeable.
Dhanush is the major factor that makes the film work to an extent. Shriya has got a break from the glamour routine for a change which is a relief, and looks fresh and cute. Technically, the movie does not offer anything special. It is a simple story with minimum requirements; the camera and editing departments have fulfilled them without making any great impression. The music is however a let down. Mithran Jawahar has done quite a good job with the dialogues.(more)

Kutty is fun.
It might seem the same old story on paper and it is, but Sukumar (who wrote and directed the original Telugu movie) is to be credited for the spontaneous dialogues, and appealing, racy screenplay. Despite the predictable end, you're glued to the screen because of the intriguing plot twists. The reason this paper-thin plot works is Dhanush. Balasubramaniyem's camera promises the lush sweetness of a romantic movie and DSP's numbers have a very strong Telugu feel. (more)

Not so big.
Kutty is an average film for all. The characters are flat without scope for anything. Even the actors look pale on screen as if the film was in the making for years. Only Dhanush is good with his sense for comedy. Music of Devi Sri Prasad sounds improved in film than in isolation. But had the picturisation of the songs been creative they would have been even more memorable. With a good cast and crew Mithran Jawahar should have tried something better. (more)

Clean entertainer.
Dhanush carries the entire film on his shoulders. Shriya is a revelation. Sameer is handsome and promising but his lip sync could have been better. Another highlight of the film is the brilliant camera work and music and background score of Devi Sri Prasad. Mithran.R.Jawahar, the director has done a perfect job. The film isn't without hiccups, though. It lacks comedy and could have been trimmed a bit in the second half to make it crisper.(more)

Cheers Dhanush.
Dhanush as Kutty is refreshing, full of energy and proving again that he can attract family audiences. Shriya is quite mature. Debutant Sameer is impressive. The music is average. Cinematography gives the movie the romantic feel it needs. Mithran's dialogues are good. Kutty is technically average. Mithran's Kutty is a family entertainer even though the magic it created years back by Arya (original version) is not so evident! (more)

Clean entertainer.
This is a remake of the Telugu film 'Arya'. It is the uncertainty over the fate of love that is the most engaging thread in the entire film, and Jawahar deserves a round of applause for that. However, the narration frequently appears like a lecture student's term as blade. Still, it is a clean entertainer and all, and Dhanush's performance is a clincher. (more)

A different dimension.
A feel-good romance, Kutty brims with energy. Dhanush enlivens the proceedings with funny interpretations of his disappointment at every turn. Shriya looks ravishing throughout and also gets her emotions right. Kutty doesn't strain your grey cells. If you don't mind an 'oh-not-again climax', an exuberant protagonist and a little smile-evoking comedy, you could enjoy this spread. If you haven't watched Aarya, possibly you'll enjoy Kutty slightly more.(more)
