Not a bull's eye, not a big miss either.
It is undeniably a full fledged commercial flick with a lot of heroism and related stuff, but there is also a certain level of finesse in the execution. Babu Sivan must be commended on a good effort, thought not without its flaws. He has handled the dialogue department with care and come out with good results. Vettaikaran is an out and out Vijay film, straight to his fans who are bound to be happy with the outcome. (more)

Paisa vasool for Vijay fans.
The first half is breezy, and it is fairly engrossing. Director Babu Sivan has done a fairly good job in the first half, but it is in the second that he loses the grip on the screenplay. The songs are good. Anushka has limited scope and passes muster. At nearly three hours, it could do a little trimming. However, Vijay fans are unlikely to complain.(more)

Typically Vijay!
From the opening scene, writer-director Babu Sivan's screenplay travels at breakneck speed - Vijay enters with a lot of fire as always, sustains the tempo with an ample dose of comedy in solo style and brims with energy in stunts. V.T.Vijayan's editing helps in the raciness of Vaettaikkaaran. Vijay Antony, the composer, reaches the next level in mass appeal with this Vijay starrer. 'Kanal' Kannan's action choreography may not be natural, but the vim and vigor is stunning. (more)

Vettaikaran is old wine served in a new bottle, with a different label. It is a one-man show for Vijay as he is there in every frame, catering to the mass audience who want their dose of unpretentious masala mix. On the downside, there is no bone of originality in the story which is etched from earlier films. A major plus for the movie are the songs tuned by Vijay Antony. The action scenes by Kanal Kannan are superbly choreographed. (more)

An absolute treat for all Vijay fans.
Vijay's recreates his magic on screen, after several not so good performers at the box office. Be it romantic scenes or action sequences or comedy track or punch dialogues, Vijay has satisfied his fans immensely in every scene. Anushka plays the glam doll. Vijay Antony's songs are peppy and are already a big hit. The picturisation of the songs has added to the charm of the music. (more)

Hunter is hunted.
It is to be appreciated that Babu Sivan has played safe in his first film. Having a mass hero like Vijay the director has dished out a real pot boiler. Its Vijay show all the way. From start to finish, he goes all guns blazing with amazing energy levels. Music by Vijay Antony is peppy and groovy. Though Vettaikkaran seems to have heavily borrowed from many movies, the racy narration makes you hold through. (more)
