Peraanmai is inadvertently hilarious.

A movie like this thrives on characters that knock against each other, and new emotions emerge but S P Jhananathan has thrust so many platitudes, morals and politics into it that it ends up being inadvertently hilarious. It's a script that looks good only on paper, filled with good intentions but hopelessly flawed. Ravi is trim, fit, packs a mean punch and brings sincerity to his role that is endearing. The stunts score as well. (more)

A low key affair.

This Diwali's first release Peraanmai directed by S P Jananathan deals with an entirely different theme but strikes a low key especially in the reliability segment. Jayam Ravi's climax sequence is power packed and is praiseworthy. On the flip side, though the theme is something new, Peraanmai lacks in the department of credibility. (more)

A brave attempt.

Ayngaran International can take pride that they have produced Peranmai, a different type of entertainer with a subtle message. It is a film within the commercial format, but does not pander to mass masala, which itself is a welcome change. Here is a definitive movie with a moral framework, and commitment along with a stunning and realistic climax. Vidyasagar's music is a snore though his background score is appealing. A major plus are the locations and the action scenes.(more)

Stands out for its racy second half and the hero’s hard work.

You have to give it to them — whatever 'Peraanmai' is or isn't, the sincerity of its hero and director comes through in every frame. The forest, where most of the action takes place, is both exciting and ominous. The beauty of the locations and Sathish Kumar's cinematography are other enhancing aspects. 'Peraanmai' is one of those rare films where the hero doesn't have a romantic track. Plaudits to Jhananathan's boldness! (more)

Mighty and masculine.

It is a film that is different from the regular rhythm pattern of Tamil cinema. It has action, humour, punch dialogues and loads of heroism but all presented in a different mix that touches both our heart and brain. Vidyasagar's background score is appealing. All credit should go to the director for choosing location, which forms a major part of the script. Sathish Kumar's camera has captured the pulsating stunt sequences at its best.(more)

Complete mindless entertainment.

S.P.Jananathan's Peranmai, starring Jayam Ravi, has an unique characteristic and a commendable storyline. Jayam Ravi is the heart-throb of show and has done full justice to his role. Cinematography by Sateesh Kumar is extraordinary and music by Vidhyasagar gels with the mood of the film. Peranmai certainly takes us to the level of complete mindless entertainment, especially during the second half, and is one of the best action thrillers in recent times.(more)
