Only for the strong stomachs!
Dhanush has enjoyed his job. Tamanna shows convincing abilities. Vivek, on the other hand, takes possession of the second half and there appears to be no driving factor in the script for the most part. Mani Sharma's tunes are catchy and the rerecording, earsplitting. On the whole, Padikathavan struggles to identify itself between comedy and violence and ends up not being both.(more)

Starters impress, but the main course changes tack in strange fashion.
Dhanush has already proved his mettle in such roles. The 'Padikkadhavan' role too suits him well. Tamanna looks gorgeous, but sadly she hasn't bothered too much about lip sync. Unobtrusive but effective, A.Venkatesh's cinematography is a plus. Suraaj's treatment allows the story to hang loose and end abruptly. The magic of the beginning is lost when the narration begins to take an entirely different route leaving the earlier part high and dry. (more)

Mass masala.
There is nothing new in director Suraaj's story which seems to have been etched out of various films of the past. Dhanush is in top form as he has never danced so well and has improved a lot in action and comedy. Tamannaah is pure eye-candy, but the romance between the lead pair lacks chemistry. The songs of Mani Sharma are peppy numbers which will appeal to the masses. Watch the movie as another mass entertainer. (more)

Hotch-potch.
Director Suraaj has tried his hand at time-tested theme. Suraaj has tried a marriage between action and comedy. However a sense of deja vu prevails as the film progresses. It is a 'typical' Dhanush in the film. He plays to his strength. Tamanna looks fresh and refreshing. Vivek evokes abundant humor. Mani Sharma has come up with a racy music. Padikathavan is worth a watch for its unadulterated masala.(more)
