Stay away.
The movie's biggest strengths are its music - and its stunts. Both Kanal Kannan and Yuvan have gone all out for this Little Star, and it shows. With its humbugging story and bash-fest theme, Silambattam appears to have everything lined up for a B and C centre win. But if you're a discerning viewer, stay away. (more)

Nothing special.
The narration is not sound, though it is difficult to put one's finger on exactly what the weaker points are, lack of application on the director's part seems to be the culprit here. Silambarasan has turned in a whole hearted performance. Sneha has managed to make an impact with a limited role. Santhanam and Karunas shoulder the comedy. Highlights of the movie are undoubtedly Silambarasan's dance skills and the foot tapping tunes. Silambarasan does not disappoint, nor does Yuvan. (more)

Mass masala.
Silambattam is a typical mass masala entertainer. There is nothing original about the story; it has been etched from various Tamil, Telugu and an old Hindi film. What makes the film watchable is the packaging, which moves at a rapid pace, though at times this 2 hour 45 minute film tests your patience. A pleasing photography by Saravanan, action scenes by Kanal Kannan, spunky choreography and Yuvan’s songs and background score are noteworthy. (more)

Far from being impressive.
With loosely etched characters and incoherent script, a sense of déjà vu prevails as one watches the film. But due credit should be given to actor Silambarasan, who does the job entrusted to him well. Santhanam with his double entendre comedy fails to evoke laughter. Yuvanshankar has given racy and peppy tunes and songs. Stunts by Kanal Kannan deserve applause for its captivating sequence.(more)

Action, with an ample dose of grossness.
What begins as a fairly suspenseful narrative dwindles into a run-of-the-mill line post-interval. Simbu's eagerness to shine equally in dance and action is commendable. Not just the outdoors, even in the indoor shots art (Prabhakar) excels. Mathi's tones and lighting shine. It's obvious that both Kanal Kannan and Simbu have worked hard on the stunts. (more)
