Almost always, we remain so self-involved that we forget to recall that it wasn't for the joy of leisure that they say that a dog is man's best friend. Raising a pet is almost analogous to taking the pride of being a dog owner. But dogs have a life far more valuable than what meets the eye in the form of how they are groomed or what they eat. After a bank-robbery, Shakthi Sounder Rajan is cautioning us with a crime-investigative-thriller lead by a cop-dog duo. Naaigal Jaakirathai cannot be ignored or avoided. Even cat-lovers might find the righteous hero of the film, Idoh, a Belgian Shepherd belonging to the Malinois variant, really cute. If there is a special category for animals in the award functions, Mani (the dog) from Naaigal Jaakirathai will win them all hands down. (more)

In some ways, Naaigal Jaakirathai feels like a new-age Rama Narayanan film � a pet helping the hero to overcome the villains is a trope that the director has used many times � but Shakti Soundar Rajan dials down on the camp and gives us a film that is more of an investigative thriller in which the dog plays a central role.
