Dull Vengeance

At the crux is an interesting one liner that involves friendship, betrayal, guilt and vengeance. Probably what they foresaw was a tension filled rustic drama. The end product does leave the audience tensed but for a completely different reason. After a point of time even the viewers just go through the motions.(more)

An ordinary tale that is high on nativity and drama

Vanmam (Vengeance) is overtly a revenge story as the title suggests. Director Jai Krishna has set the whole scene up in Nagercoil, where he has carefully carved out the very nativity of the soil. But, does the movie live up to our expectations? (more)

A tale of friendship, hatred and sentiments

Vijay Sethupathy is back after a 9 month hiatus along with Kreshna in an all village centric flick. Two friends who stick to life no matter what cross roads across when an unexpected disaster hits them, what happens next? Directed by Jai Krishna who happens to be the former assistant of Ulaganayagan Kamal Hassan, the film dwells in the rural milieu quite comfortably. What can circumstances do to our lives? Jai Krishna takes this one liner as the theme, a small mistake, an incident that you did not want to happen but just happens, how will it change things? Adding pinches of commercial elements as romance, friendship, sentiment and some boiling anger sums up Vanmam.(more)

Below Average

Director Jai Krishnas Vanmham is a clichd long and boring movie. Vijay Sethupathi sleep walks through the film while Kreshna makes a sincere attempt to make it interesting. It is packaged for the mass B & C market, with all commercial ingredients.(more)

Watching something like this is punishment enough without making it seem like a two-and-a-half hour underwear commercial.

fter watching Soodhu Kavvum, I wrote, Vijay Sethupathi, the poster boy of this cinema, was welcomed in his first scene with cheers and claps usually reserved for mass heroes making their entry. Its the sweetest sound Ive heard in years. But then, those are just A-centre cheers and claps, and if we know anything about our heroes, its that they like the rest of the alphabet too.(more)

Two friends turn bitter foes after a fall out and their enmity is exploited by a man who has scores to settle.

Vanmham begins along predictable lines. Two thick friends Radha and Chelladurai, their friendship told through the mandatory song and fight routines, a bit of romance and so on... We sit up when Radha accidentally kills Rathnam while trying to save his friend. This changes the relationship between these two characters who regret the action in different ways. While Radha realizes the enormity of his mistake and starts to do good for Rathnam's family, Chelladurai is torn between his lover, who happens to be the dead man's sister, Vadhana, and the affection he has for his friend.
