A sincere effort.
Pirivom Sandippom is an epic of non-eventual proportions. In other words, nothing ever happens in the movie. The screenplay is a mockery of the very word because there is no play. If not for the sincerity of Palaniappan's approach and his clever use of dialogue, this is a forgettable effort. Of the Pongal crop of movies though, this film might well be one of the better efforts. (more)

Feel good family story.
Karu Palaniappan has his heart in the right place and has come out with a clean film which is sure going to be lapped up by the family audiences. The film has been well crafted by Palaniappan. The melodies of Vidyasagar are soothing and are picturised as a part of the narration, along with lovely camera work of M.S.Prabhu who has brought out the emotions of the protagonists in a telling manner. For family audiences.
The director has beautifully brought in the importance of relationships in a person's life. Sneha has played her part well. Cheran on his part has done a good job. But it seems like this actor-director has underplayed his part. Though Vidyasagar's songs have not created a whirlwind, there are a couple of pleasant numbers that gel with the story of the film. 'Kanja' Karuppu, M.S.Bhaskar and team have provided the much needed comedy interludes to this otherwise slow paced movie. (more)

Natural, but also tryingly slow in parts.
In a story backed by authenticity and natural underplay of emotions, you can't expect racy action or filmi logic. So 'Pirivom …' is not for those who feed on the plethora of commercial spread available. The sheer guts has goaded Pazhaniappan to make a film sans fights, peppy songs, punch lines, item numbers, melodrama and artificial heroism. The courage deserves to be lauded. All the same, Pazhaniappan could have tightened the screenplay further. (more)

A different family based plot.
The story and director are the actual hero/heroine in the film, driving it ahead. Beautiful Sneha lingers on audiences' minds. Cheran shines with his natural performance. Without the valuable support of the remaining large cast, the movie would not have been this striking. Karu Pazhaniappan's apt and sharp dialogues aptly convey the intended emotions. Pirivoam Sandhippoam has possibly started an inspiring trend to change the idiom of modern Tamil cinema. (more)
