AZHAGIYA TAMIL MAGAN

Illogical.

Director Bharhathan falls short of not just logic, but technique as well. A R Rahman does make an excellent effort to rev up the proceedings, but sadly for him, the songs are poorly represented in the film. If you take away the sheen of the costumes and the richness of the sets and locals, it's appalling how pedestrian the dance sequences are. A die-hard Vijay fan might be able to brave the movie, but for the others, this movie can be given a miss. (more)

Vijay show.

Azhagiya Tamil Magan banks heavily on Vijay's charm and performance. He looks stylish and handsome. He lights up the screen by his dynamic performance. Director Bharathan has exploited Vijay's strengths well. He has provided a perfect entertainer for Vijay fans by giving ample chance, including dual role, to Vijay to come up with a stylish, action packed, romantic heroism. Shreya is simply ravishing. Masala entertainer.

Three Cheers! Ilayathalapathy Vijay has delivered something different from his usual formula films. Vijay is the heart and soul of ATM! What sails the film through is its sense of humour. The gags are funny and so are the one-liners, and debutant writer – director Barathan makes it work due to smart packaging. Count among the high points- A.R Rahman's chic score. Cinematographer Balasubramanian has been able to create breathtaking images along with stunning DI work. (more)

Tailor made for Vijay fans.

The main drawback of the movie is that it tends to follow a predictable path, one taken by zillions of masala movies before. Shriya has a good role and she has done a decent job and looks angelic. Santhanam does his part. Camera work by Balasubramaniam is excellent. All the songs have been choreographed artistically with top notch visuals. A.R.Rahman as usual dazzles. But it is all the way Vijay, with a towering performance, never seen before. (more)

A handsome hero, a wobbling climax.

Mind blowing footwork, well-maintained physique, interesting histrionics and uninhibited romantic interludes — Vijay lives up to the title throughout his latest offering, Azhagiya Tamizh Magan. The svelte Shreya emotes well. Vijay’s costume (Nalini Sriram, Rajendran) spells class. ‘Fefsi’ Vijayan’s action choreography is noteworthy and Balasubramaniam's canning of these sequences warrants mention. Bharathan's racy screenplay, peppy dialogue and Antony’s crisp editing help ‘ATM’ speed ahead. But Bharathan gets stuck towards the end and takes an anticlimactic course that’s thoroughly contrived. Vijay is truly the Azhagiya Tamil Magan of Kollywood!

Vijay has managed yet again to give a complete entertainer that will please the masses. The biggest strength of the film is its humour and debutant director Bharathan has managed to bring it all together in the movie very well. Shriya has a very good role and the actress has done a very good job of it. Santhanam has excelled in his part. Rahman's musical score combined with amazing picturisations makes the songs a treat. Camera work by Balasubramanian is stunning. (more)
