Avoidable.
Sri Lakshmi Productions' heavily hyped Malaikkottai follows the formula of the action-hero who is the 'greatest of em all'. But it falls flat on its face. Poor Priyamani, the urban-glamour-girl tag leaves her nothing do except frown and dance dream-songs at alternate intervals. Mani Sharma's background score leaves you with torn eardrums and a headache the size of Saturn.(more)

Disappointing.
The jaded formula has been re-heated by Vishal and his new director Boopathy Pandian in Malaikottai, but somehow the recipe does not gel. Mani Sharma's music is ok. The film is predictable and slow moving, with nothing new in the story or treatment. End Result? Malaikottai is a big let-down.(more)

An average masala-mix entertainer.
Boopathy Pandiyan seems to have a simple conviction for his movies. An undemanding plot decked with a neat script strewn with the necessary potboiler ingredients. Mani Sharma’s music is just passable. Vaithi's camera speaks by itself and Editor Sashi has rendered a crisp job in the first half of the movie. In all, we recommend Malaikottai if all you need is a mindless laugh, however, don’t expect to laugh like a drain though.(more)

Entertaining all the way.
Hats off to director Boopathy Pandian and Vishal for dishing out a commercial entertainer which is racy from the word go. With established stars like Kannada actor Devaraj, Ashish Vidyarthi and Priya Mani around, Boopathy Pandian has churned out a typical 'masala' film, which is sure to go down well with the masses. Kanal Kannan's stunts are a major highlight. Mani Sharma's music is catchy. The film almost is predictable. But still is a good fast moving entertainer.(more)

Typical action 'Kottai'
Vishal is agile and impressive in his stunts. Comedy that he has tried in Malaikottai offers a new dimension to his action-image. Priya Mani looks lovely in her trendy clothes and is glamorous in the song sequences. All the characters in Malaikottai have considerable significance and move along the main story-track. Kanal Kannan deserves a special mention for his pacy and realistic stunts. Songs in Mani Sharma's music are enjoyable. Director Boopathy Pandian has given a complete entertainer.(more)
