A heartless love story.
All actors in Deepavali disappoint, and the blame should go to the ridiculous plot and the lifeless characters that they've been hired to play. Director Ezhil has not been able to establish the love between the lead pair convincingly. Yuvan Shankar Raja's magic is wearing off as none of the songs stay in your mind. The only silver lining is Vijay Milton's camera which is eye catching. (more)

Illogical fun.
The story is largely unbelievable and even ridiculous in many places. But you will most likely be willing to compromise and accept this illogicality because, this is an entertaining film. Kudos to director Ezhil for ensuring that, an unbelievable plot like this does not cause aggravation or frustration to the viewers. There is a refreshing innocence about this film, Bhavana and Ravi manage to endear themselves with their easy charm. The music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is outstanding.(more)

Case of the missing fireworks – Deepavali.
The highlight of the film is the lead pair — their cuteness and chemistry. Ravi scores as a genuine performer. Bhavana's role offers scope and the actor doesn't let it slip by. Be it a musical canvas or a crowded roadside, Vijay Milton's camera traverses through with taste. Sets, in Selvakumar's style, however, render a clear, seen-before feel. (more)

Festive extravaganza!
Firstly, kudos to Deeppavali crew on giving a neat, family entertainer. It is a film for all classes and all ages and has a storyline which is truly different from the rest. It is a love story that showcases the myriad histrionic abilities of the lead pair, Jayam Ravi and Bhavana, in a storyline which is subtly beautiful and screenplay which is neat and taut. (more)

Deepavali has all the ingredients to become a good entertainer.
The first half of the movie is fast and the screenplay deserves praise. Bavana has done justice to the meaty role given to her. Director Ezhil has got the best out of Jeyam Ravi, who has once again proved his prowess. He has managed humor with the main cast itself. Ezhil is well supported by cameraman Vijay Milton, music director Yuvanshankar Raja and editor Sasikumar. (more)
