Damp Squib
It is quite sad that a director like Linguswamy with proven record of making interesting commercial movies has made such a damp squib. "Paiyaa" is a disappointing show, as Linguswamy has restored to cliched script rather than providing something new. The movie looks sleek, thanks to the high technical values but fares poor in substance with insipid story and script. (more)

Nothing entertaining about this Paiyya
Paiyya's biggest minus is Lingusamy's script. It starts out so very promisingly, only to fizzle out with no appreciable sequences in the second half. Logic, rationale and reasoning go for a toss; its all fisticuffs and bashing-up after a point. Watch the movie only for Karthi's screen presence, pretty Tamannaah and Yuvan's songs. Otherwise, there's nothing very entertaining about this Paiyya. (more)

Pacy road show with a few humps on a straight run
Director Lingusamy traverses on an all new road show in Paiyaa and has acquitted himself fairly well. Although romance seems to be the axle in Paiyaa, Lingusamy has skewed away mildly from this and spiced it up with a travel event as a backdrop. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the major backbone of Paiyaa with lovely tracks suiting the mood of the film. All in all, a stylish, light hearted family entertainer for the summer! (more)

Summer special
The story is not earth-shatteringly new, but what pulls you into the movie is the different spin that Lingusamy gives to the familiar story. Yuvan's songs have been ruling the charts. On the downside, the film does not stay in top gear throughout. But as summer specials go, this is a good one. (more)

Fast and Furious
Lingusamy is a past master at packaged entertainment. His latest Paiyaa is a road movie laced with mass elements and extraordinary songs picturised in a stunning manner. Fasten your seat belts and enjoy the ride. The songs of Yuvan Shankar Raja scorches just like the desert sun. On the downside the film moves at a leisurely pace and the plot line is riddled with holes. But if you are looking for just fun and entertainment Paiyaa is a jolly good ride.(more)
