ENGEYUM KAADHAL

All glitz, no substance.

As the name suggests, it is love love and love everywhere and Prabhu Deva has used this premise to tell his story and the three major components which help him in this undertaking are pleasing cinematography, vibrant music and uber-chic costumes. Although Prabhu Deva has such major supporting features by his side, he has failed to utilize them to the fullest. The intentions may be worthy but the execution is frivolous. (more)

More music, less love.

Though romance reigns supreme in this film, lack of enough care in the script and narration mar the flow. But hold on! Harris Jayaraj's music, Nirav Shah's cinematography and the crackling chemistry of 'Jayam' Ravi-Hansika Motwani set things right to a decent extent. 'Jayam' Ravi is impressive. Hansika, the bubbly, girl is awesome. Her presence itself is a big plus, not to forget her performance. Suman and Raju Sundaram play their part well.(more)

Candy floss.

Engeyum Kaadhal tries too hard to maintain a tempo, but save for the crackling chemistry and some charming moments involving Ravi and Hansika, the film is just average. All the characters in the film are cool, light and easy. So cool in fact that they sometimes come off looking silly (Raju Sundaram and Suman). But silliness apart, Engeyum Kaadhal is a refreshing film. Refreshing, because of its spectacular performances from lead pair, Nirav Shah's camera and above all Harris Jayaraj's outstanding music. Engeyum Kaadhal delivers little.

Engeyum Kaadhal is one of those movies that promises a lot, but delivers little. The story is practically non-existent. Nirav Shah's camera-work is brilliant, capturing the colors in a way that thrills everyone. Director Prabhu Deva makes his mark with his usual humorous touches, and brings some comic relief. Another advantage is Nalini Sriram's pretty costumes that show off the leads in a very favorable light. Editor Anthony shows his skill, while Harris Jeyaraj's foot-tapping numbers, already chart-busters, have been picturized very well. (more)

Engeyum Kaadhal is a cool breezy entertainer perfect for this hot summer.

Jayam Ravi looks stylish on screen. Hansika Motwani is perfect for the role; however, she has to learn the language to get the lip sync right. Suman is perfect on screen and as usual, his experience speaks. Cinematographer Nirav Shah is the true star of this film. Anthony's sleek editing and Nagu's perfect art works need special mention. Harris Jayaraj's music, which is already topping the charts, has been picturised well. Kudos to the costume designer for the brilliant color combinations.(more)
