An Emotional Father - Daughter Melodrama

The director’s finish to the tale is appreciable. It’s a much better and a more sensible finale than what the Hindi version had. Despite its glitches, ‘Deiva Thirumagal’ is a warm tale that touches an emotional chord at places, and is a different take for the audience.(more)

Watch Deiva Thirumagal for Vikram

If you're a fan of sentimental tear-jerkers, and have not seen I am Sam, Deiva Thirumagal might impress. For the rest, it might provide a sense of déjà vu, and towards the end, the meandering, weak screenplay is largely dissatisfying. (more)

An emotional tale between a father and a daughter well told

After a long while, DT gives the satisfaction of watching a film without cringing in your seats or worrying how it would appeal to the young population. In short Deiva Thirumagal is a well nuanced film that will appeal to everyone who has their heart and feelings in the right place.(more)

Vikram's Showpiece

The film has a straight forward narration without commercial compromises and is certainly a feel-good family entertainer. Nirav Shah’s visuals are a treat while Prakash Kumar’s music with Vikram lending his voice too, is soothing to the ears. Go and celebrate Vikram’s finest performance yet.(more)

Daddy divine and dearest

Deiva Thirumagan, with A L Vijay of Madrasapattinam fame proving his mettle and supported by his glorious team, ensures it’s worth the ticket money. Given that films like Deiva come once in a blue moon, it is a not-to-be missed, must-see movie.(more)

Brilliant performances by actors

On the whole, ‘Deiva Thirumagal’ is one of the best films in Vikram’s career and so for the other actors. But when it comes down to commercial success, the producers cannot be assured at ease for they’ll have to wait for another week . Vigorous promotions and Good word of mouth publicity will help it gain a good position in box office.(more)

Deiva Thirumagal is a well-made crowd pleasing family entertainer with a developmental disability that gets mentally taxing for the audience towards the end.

a sensitive poem on celluloid

Probably because the scene of action is Ooty, the main character is mentally challenged, and the story-telling sequence with Vikram and the kid is familiar, at times DT reminds you of Balu Mahendra's inimitable Moondraam Pirai. And at times Kamal's Guna! Innocent, heart-warming this Krishna Leela!Deiva Thirumagal(more)

When director Vijay said, 'This is a Vikram film and I am a part of it,' he really meant it. Deiva Thiirumagal is Vikram’s film almost made to order!

Director Vijay has deftly brought all these stars and characters together in a tale of love that everyone must watch. It’s one of those movies at the end of which you’ll pick up your phone and call your dad just to hear his voice! (more)

It is Vikram all the way

Deivathirumagal is an honest attempt without any frills from director Vijay and national award-winning actor Vikram whose performance anchors the entire film. There are no villains, no flashy songs shot in foreign locales, no double-meaning dialogues, mindless violence, yet Vijay has woven a poetic tale of bond between a mentally-ill father and his five-year-old daughter.(more)

Watch it for Vikram , as he has a charismatic, alluring appeal that lifts this film considerably.

Hats off to Vikram and his director Vijay for taking the road less travelled with their Deivathirumagal. It is an honest film in the era of shallow and fraudulent mass masala movies with larger-than-life heroes. This one works and grabs us where it matters. Deivathirumagal is straight from the heart.(more)

All in all a neat movie for the whole family

Even the mannerisms of Krishna are copied from the English original...would have been more enjoyable only if the director had not lifted scenes wholesale from the 2001 Sean Penn-Michelle Pfeiffer starrer 'I am Sam'. Vikram does a far superior job than Ajay Devgn, who had portrayed the same role in the Hindi version 'Main Aisa Hi Hoon' (2005). (more)
