The 59th National Awards have been announced yesterday. Three films from Kollywood 'Aaranya Kandam', 'Vaagai Sooda Vaa' and 'Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai' have bagged the prestigious award. 

Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai bagged the award for 'Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment'.

Appu Kutty has won the National Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai.

Aaranya Kaandam's director Thiagarajan Kumararaja has won Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debutant Director

Praveen KL and Srikanth have won the Best Editing Award for Aaranya Kandam.

Vaagai Sooda Vaa directed by Sarukunam has received the Best Feature Film in Tamil Award

Revathy’s 'Red Building Where The Sun Sets' has bagged Best Non Feature Film on Family Values.

Dirty Picture 'honoured'

The film 'Dirty Picture' which created a sensation has bagged three National Awards. Vidya Balan stole the show by bagging the 'Best Actress Award'. The film received awards for 'Best Make-Up' and 'Best Costumes'.

Jiiva and Trisha join hands in the film 'Endrendrum Punnagai' to be directed by Ahmed of 'Vaamanan' fame. The duo are set to share the screenspace for the first time. Earlier there were speculations about Trisha being opted out of the film. It has been now confirmed that Trisha and Jiiva are the lead pairs for the film. The film will be a romantic entertainer. Santhanam has been roped in for the humour quotient. Nassar to play the role of a father. Music by Harris Jayaraj.

K.V. Anand who is busy with the shooting of Maatraan has denied the news about directing Rajini's next film. The director had tweeted, "சுண்டெலி, சிங்கத்தை தூரத்திலிருந்து பார்க்கலாம், ரசிக்கலாம். கிட்ட போய் விளையாடுற தகுதியெல்லாம் சுண்டெலிக்கு இல்லை."

Vidya Balan who rocked the nation with her performance in 'The Dirty Picture' is back again with 'Kahaani' which is set to release tomorrow. The film is a suspense thriller based on the real life experiences of novelist Advaita Kala, who has penned the script for the film. Vidya Balan plays a pregnant woman in search of her husband and the father of the child.
