Director Shankar's next project is buzzed to be a trilingual film in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu with Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal and Prabhas playing the lead roles respectively. The movie titled 'Thailvan Irukkiran' was written by Kamal Haasan and the mega budget project is to be produced by Aascar Ravichandran. There are also speculations as to whether Shankar will direct a film based on Kamal's script or would direct a film with his own script.

Rumours are rife that Katrina Kaif would play the female lead in all the three versions. Katrina's manager has said that the actress is very keen in acting in South Indian films, but except for Soundarya Rajinikanth, there has been no direct communication from any other producers down South. Also her kitty is full this year with 2 major projects with Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

Popular Tollywood actress and producer Lakshmi Manchu has been roped in Mani Ratnam's film 'Kadal'.  The actress is touted to play a powerful negative role and speaks the Tirunelveli dialect in Kadal. Lakshmi said that she is very excited about being a part of Mani Ratnam's project but cannot talk about her role in the film. 

Kadal has Gautham and Samantha in the lead roles. Arjun and Aravind Swamy to play pivotal roles in the film. A. R. Raham does the music score. The movie which was set to kickstart from February 1 didn't take off due to the ongoing strike in the Tamil film industry. The movie is expected to be released in August.
