Madras Trailer Review - Gritty and impressive

The trailer of Karthi's upcoming film Madras released couple of days ago. The film dwells into the lives of people residing at North Madras. Although the movie might remind one of films like  Polladhavan  and Naan Mahaan Alla, Madras could very well stand out for its gritty narration and impressive screenplay.

Ranjith's storytelling

Director Ranjith made an impressive debut with Attakathi, and very similar to the debut project, Madras too has his signature written all over it. The way he introduces his characters and the plot through a localite has caught everyone's attention. Although movies like Veppam and the recently released Ennamo Nadakuthu were set at similar locations, Madras looks very promsing, thanks to the amount of detailing done by the director, including the Tamil dialect. Who can forget colloquial terms like 'Route'u Thala' in Attakathi?

Karthi's all new impressive look

This is a very important film for Karthi, who got some support in the form of 'Biriyani', after his string of flops attempting at run-of-the-mill comedy-action entertainers while relying heavily on Santhanam. He has taken a bold step with this film, by taking up a raw and rustic role. Karthi with his french beard looks appealing without looking as a misfit for the character set in North Madras. His dialogue delivery has always been his strength and he continues to keep his form when he describes Silku's assets.

Rich technical values

Santhosh Narayanan is fast progressing and has gone mainstream in this movie. His background score adds intensity and character to the trailer. His minimal use of instruments keeps it really simple and effective. Crisp editing and cinematography are equally impressive.

Karthi's Viswaroobam

We should thank the director for not resorting to the cliched low-angle shot or loud music to display hero's mass. Instead, the trailer ends with a shot subtly showing how Karthi's shadow grows larger than life symbolically conveying the hero taking viswaroobam to fight against mounting challenges. Classy!
