Jyotika, currently being seen in the Hindi legal drama System alongside Sonakshi Sinha and Ashutosh Gowariker, has opened up about her long absence from Tamil cinema. Her last Tamil film was Era Saravanan's Udanpirappe in 2021, and in a candid conversation with Sudhir Srinivasan, she made clear that she is in no rush to return unless the right script arrives.

"I have done it all. Government school teacher, lawyer, housewife in different shades, everything you can do in a women-empowerment story. Now I am looking for something more and something different," she said, adding that she does not mind waiting two years for the right role.

Jyotika pointed to her Malayalam film Kaathal: The Core with Mammootty as the kind of role she is seeking, describing the character as "silent but extremely strong." For her, repeating familiar territory is not just creatively unsatisfying but also unfair to audiences who have watched her for 30 years. "They don't want me to do the same thing again and again," she said simply.
