Anticipation surrounding Vijay's Jana Nayagan has reached fever pitch following the actor's swearing in as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Fans are eagerly awaiting news on the film's censor certificate from the CBFC, which has been the primary roadblock to its release.
In the latest development, reports suggest CM Vijay has personally asked producer Venkat K Narayana to return to Chennai to fast-track the film's release plan. However, sources close to the production house confirm that Narayana is currently at the Cannes International Film Festival, representing another production venture — Balan the Boy, directed by Chidambaram — which is set for a special market screening on Thursday at the Marché du Film.
Jana Nayagan's journey to screens has been one of Tamil cinema's most turbulent. Originally scheduled for January 9, the film was held back after the CBFC withheld its censor certificate. Following a legal battle, the makers withdrew the case and awaited clearance. On April 9, the film was leaked online in HD, causing significant financial damage to the makers and reportedly reducing the OTT deal value as well.
On the legal front, the Principal Sessions Court in Chennai refused bail to nine accused in the leak case, noting the investigation is still at an early stage. The film's editor Pradeep E Ragav was also dismissed from the editor's union following the incident.
Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay alongside Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Prakash Raj, and Narain.
