With exactly a week to go for Karuppu's May 14 release, director RJ Balaji has addressed the growing anticipation around the film's trailer — and explained why it hasn't dropped yet.
Taking to social media, Balaji confirmed the trailer is ready and assured fans they will like it. However, he revealed that the ongoing political developments in Tamil Nadu prompted the team to hold back. "There are a lot of political situations unfolding around us... we did not want to release a trailer only for these political waves to wash over it," he said, adding that the team is waiting for a positive resolution before dropping the trailer. He also teased that an extended version of Verappa will be released alongside the trailer ahead of the film.
Earlier, Balaji had shared a fiery still featuring Suriya amidst flames and festivities — hinting at the adrenaline-charged nature of the film.
Suriya plays Saravanan — a nod to his real name — opposite Trisha as Preethi. The supporting cast includes Natty Natraj, Mansoor Ali Khan, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy. Sai Abhyankkar composes the music with lyrics by Pa Vijay, Vivek, Vishnu Edavan, Asal Kolaar, Adesh Krishna, and Arun Srinivasan. The technical crew features cinematographer GK Vishnu, editor R Kalaivanan, production designer Arun Venjaramoodu, and stunt choreographers Anbariv and Vikram Mor. The film is produced by SR Prakash Babu and SR Prabu under Dream Warrior Pictures.
